The Wosk–McDonald Aldine Collection

Seeking RA for Special Collections online research

JMax • September 18, 2024 • project

UPDATE: This position has been filled.

The Aldus@SFU project at Simon Fraser University is looking to hire a research assistant to help with identifying and inventorying parallel digitized collections elsewhere on the Internet.

Aldus@SFU: Remediating Special Collections is a SSHRC-funded project to digitize, contextualize, and make publicly available the entirety of Simon Fraser University Library’s Wosk–McDonald Aldine Collection. The digital remediation and online presentation of the collection – comprising some 120+ volumes published by the Italian Renaissance printer-publisher Aldus Manutius (c. 1451–1515) – will enhance access to these books and enable and foster wider engagement with multiple audiences, both scholarly and public.

We are seeking a Master’s-level graduate student to search through online “short-title” catalogues such as the ISTC and USTC to identify and inventory parallel holdings to SFU: volumes that have been digitized and made available online via other institutions around the world.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

This is a one-term, part-time position based at SFU’s Canadian Institute for Studies in Publishing (CISP) in Vancouver, BC. Remuneration is $30CDN/hr x an estimated 100hrs. We anticipate a mostly remote work context, working independently, and meeting with the team periodically.

This RAship will report to John W. Maxwell, Associate Professor, Publishing.

If you are interested, please send a cover email and brief CV to jmax@sfu.ca. We are looking to fill this position before Sept 30th, 2024.
